In this post, we are going to begin to explore together where evil began, and why God didn't just zap it out of existence. There will be several small posts addressing this subject.
The Holy bible says that God created Lucifer(son of the morning) perfect. He had the hightest position of the angels in heaven. Ezekiel 28:13-15 says, "Thou hast been in Eden the garden of God; every precious stone [was] thy covering, the sardius, topaz, and the diamond, the beryl, the onyx, and the jasper, the sapphire, the emerald, and the carbuncle, and gold: the workmanship of thy tabrets and of thy pipes was prepared in thee in the day that thou wast created. Thou [art] the anointed cherub that covereth; and I have set thee [so]: thou wast upon the holy mountain of God; thou hast walked up and down in the midst of the stones of fire. Thou [wast] perfect in thy ways from the day that thou wast created, till iniquity was found in thee." In Hebrew, a covering cherub means protector. So, Lucifer was in the very presence of God, standing as a covering cherub by the mercy seat of God, which sits on top of the ark of the covenant in heaven. What is inside the ark of the covenant in heaven? The original tablets of the covenant, or 10 commandments.
Hebrews 9:4 tells us what was inside the ark of the covenant that Israel had in their sanctuary, "Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [was] the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant;" The Israelite sanctuary that Moses was given a pattern of, to build(Hebrews 8:5), was a copy of the sanctuary in heaven. Hebrews 8:2 says, "A minister of the sanctuary, and of the true tabernacle, which the Lord pitched, and not man." Revelation 11:19 says, "And the temple of God was opened in heaven, and there was seen in his temple the ark of his testament: and there were lightnings, and voices, and thunderings, and an earthquake, and great hail." So, there was the ark of the covenant in heaven before there was one on earth, and God had man make an exact replica for the Israelite sanctuary.
The Most Holy Place was where the ark of the covenant was located. Hebrews 9:2-5 says, "For there was a tabernacle made; the first, wherein [was] the candlestick, and the table, and the shewbread; which is called the sanctuary. And after the second veil, the tabernacle which is called the Holiest of all; Which had the golden censer, and the ark of the covenant overlaid round about with gold, wherein [was] the golden pot that had manna, and Aaron's rod that budded, and the tables of the covenant; And over it the cherubims of glory shadowing the mercyseat; of which we cannot now speak particularly."
So, Lucifer was in the Most Holy Place in the sanctuary in heaven, in the very presence of God. He was to be a protector or defender of the covenant(10 commandments) of God, which was inside the ark of the covenant in heaven, which was under the mercy seat of God.
God's 10 commandment law or covenant was the very foundation of His throne in heaven. Lucifer was to protect or defend that law. For some reason, Lucifer began to rebel against the very law he was to protect. He started whispering to the unfallen angels that they could be righteous without obeying God's law, that they were already good, and didn't need God telling them what to do. He whispers that to you and I now. He convinced 1/3 of the once holy angels to rebel with him against God Almighty and the foundation of His government. Isaiah 14:13-14 says,"For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also upon the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. The spirit of selfishness that we all battle originated in the heart of Lucifer. For some reason, his focus became himself. He didn't really want to be like the Most High, but instead longed for His power.
In Isaiah 14:12, God told Lucifer that he was going to have to leave,"How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! [how] art thou cut down to the ground, which didst weaken the nations!" Revelation 12:7-9 says, "And there was war in heaven: Michael and his angels fought against the dragon; and the dragon fought and his angels, And prevailed not; neither was their place found any more in heaven. And the great dragon was cast out, that old serpent, called the Devil, and Satan, which deceiveth the whole world: he was cast out into the earth, and his angels were cast out with him." Jesus told His disciples that He was there when this event happened. Luke 10:18 says, "And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven."
So, satan was cast out of heaven for rebelling against the very law he was to protect, the very law that was in the ark of the covenant, the very foundation of God's throne, under the mercy seat of God.
